Nutrition and Dietetics
At St Andrew's Healthcare we recognise that wholesome and enjoyable food is an important part of the service user experience and has implications for health, both present and future. All food is now prepared fresh and on-site and good communications with our Food Services are facilitated through regular meetings and joint projects such as the Food and Health Policy.
We aim to provide a high standard of nutritional care and diet therapy, as well as raising nutritional awareness and encouraging healthy lifestyle choices for service users and staff. New developments include our electronic nutrition screening tool, to ensure that individual needs are identified, and a weight management care pathway to support service users when weight gain is a concern.
Our friendly team of Registered Dietitians are all registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and practice within the HPC standards and the BDA Code of professional conduct. Each Dietitian works within a specialist multidisciplinary team where they contribute to integrated patient care and are a resource for training and evidence based advice on nutrition. They also work together on shared initiatives and are professionally accountable to the Head of Nutrition and Dietetics. Dietitians in the service are members of national special interest groups, and have contributed to publications on nutritional issues in acquired brain injury, Huntington’s disease and mental health.
