St Andrew’s Healthcare has been shortlisted in the brain injury rehabilitation category of the Laing and Buisson Independent Specialist Care Awards 2012.
The awards aim to highlight the range of business achievements, professional skills, management leadership and spirit of enterprise amongst independent sector providers of social care services for adults with learning or physical disabilities, brain injury, or mental health problems including dementia, from care homes to supported living and home care, and to pay tribute to those individuals and teams who have demonstrated outstanding excellence in their fields of work.
The short listing for this award recognises Heather Barker, Occupational Therapist, National Brain Injury Centre in Northampton and her contribution to St Andrew’s excellence in the provision of brain injury rehabilitation services.One of the areas Heather, with support from members of the multidisciplinary team, has been focussing on is a Men’s Health and Wellbeing group offering opportunities to explore a variety of topics related to health and wellbeing. Topics which have been included are relaxation, beating the blues, pulse raising, trying new fruits and laughter.
Heather Barker, Occupational Therapist says “Due to the nature of the locked ward it is essential that we provide a wide range of opportunities for individuals to engage in activity which promotes mental and physical wellbeing. This allows us to underpin greater achievement in management of activities of daily living, therefore the group was introduced.”
Winners will be announced at a gala dinner, hosted by Ruby Wax, on March 15 at the London Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square.
