The Charity is keen to support and complement the NHS in training future consultant psychiatrists, whilst staying true to public sector principles. We offer good representation of specialty training and supports aspects of the new curriculum that many other providers will find hard to deliver.
Historically we have had strong links with the University of Northampton where we provide a variety of full-time training placements for students and trainees across many health professions including nursing, social work and occupational therapy.
In 2009 St Andrew’s Academic Centre was established, in partnership with the Institute of Psychiatry, part of King’s College London. Teams are in place to provide teaching and research output, including PhD-level research.
Currently some 25 St Andrew’s staff have formal academic posts at Universities, and we run an expanding programme of academic courses, up to master’s level modules at King’s College.
We have research and teaching links with half a dozen other Universities in the UK, including our local partners at University of Northampton.
St Andrew’s has a strong recent record of funding mental health research and is currently supporting medical, psychology and nursing-led projects with partner universities.
We are putting in place an infrastructure that includes a clinical and research case register to support governance, clinical audit and research.
