The team

The team is led by a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatry and published Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Dr Fiona Mason. Our staff have substantial experience in caring for the most challenging individuals across many areas of mental health. Many of the service users cared for have offending backgrounds involving violence, arson, sexual offending and substance abuse.

Dr Fiona Mason
Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Deputy Medical Director, St Andrew's Healthcare
Dr Fiona Mason is a specialist in women's mental health, offending and service development. She has particular expertise in post traumatic responses and the links between trauma and offending. Her research focusses on the effect of rape on women and legal issues surrounding the trials.

Dr Piyal Sen
Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Associate Medical Director
St Andrew's Healthcare Essex
Based at St Andrew’s Healthcare regional hospital in Essex Dr Piyal Sen has experience of working with both men and women, in particular those with a personality disorder.  Dr Sen also heads up the corporate learning and development board, acting as a trainer and organiser of academic seminars.

                                                                                                                                                            
Dr Katina Anagnostakis
Dr Anagnostakis is a dual qualified Forensic and General Psychiatrist and Master of Medical Science in Clinical Psychiatry. She has previous experience in a range of open and secure mental health units and prisons, including high secure women’s services, male medium and low secure and community forensic services. She is currently based in the medium secure Women’s Service at St Andrew’s Healthcare working with mentally disordered women offenders, most of whom characteristically suffer with complex co morbidity of mental illness, personality disorder, trauma related and substance abuse disorders.

Dr Elizabeth Beber
Dr Beber is a Consultant Psychiatrist in our Women’s Service.  After completing her higher psychiatric training, Dr Beber has concentrated on her interests in Forensic Learning Disability and currently works within St Andrew’s Healthcare with adult females with offending histories who present with learning disabilities, autism and Aspergers syndrome.

Dr Ernest Gralton
Dr Gralton is a Consultant Forensic and Lifespan Learning Disability Psychiatrist with a Dual Certificate of Completion of Specialist training or CCST.  He has a special interest in adolescents with complex developmental disorders who present risk to themselves and others; conditions can include Autism, ADHD, Emerging Personality Disorder, Mental Illness and Developmental Trauma. Significant proportions of these young people have had histories of neglect and abuse and have been in care.

Dr Simon Gibbon
Dr Gibbon is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist working in both the Deaf and Women’s services at St Andrews Hospital, Northampton. Prior to his present appointment he was Clinical Lecturer in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Nottingham.  In addition to expertise in the assessment of deaf patients he also has a particular interest in risk assessment, personality disorder and sexual offending.

Dr Marco Picchioni
Dr Picchioni has dual accreditation in General Adult and Forensic Psychiatry. He has 8 years experience conducting research into psychotic illnesses, in particular schizophrenia. He undertakes primarily criminal medico-legal work specialising in psychosis and offending. He is a senior lecturer in forensic mental health science at the institute of psychiatry and works within the Men’s division at St Andrews Northampton.

 Dr Jane Radley
As a member of Royal College of Psychiatrists special interest group in Aspergers Syndrome and registered by the National Autistic Society as having expertise in the diagnosis and management of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Dr Radley works largely with Adults with Learning disabilities, Aspergers, ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Disorders as a Consultant Psychiatrist.

Dr Ash Roychoudhury
With dual qualifications in Forensic and General Psychiatry, Dr Roychowdhury practises as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist.  His areas of expertise are within Forensic Psychiatric dual diagnosis, treatment resistant schizophrenia and personality disorder.  He also has a keen interest in the Investigation and analysis of Serious Untoward Incidents in mental health using Root Cause Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, Incident Decision trees and Change Analysis.

Dr Graeme Yorston
With qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry and Human Genetics, Dr Yorston is a Consultant Forensic and Old Age Psychiatrist specialising in criminality in old age, Old age Psychiatry, including neuro-psychiatric disorders including dementia.

Jackie Bird
As a specialist with over 30 years experience in adult mental health social work and forensic mental health social work Jackie is a value able member of our team.  She is a Lay member for the Mental Health Review Tribunal therefore competent and skilled in report writing, social histories, court reports etc.  Jackie also has specialist knowledge in relation to Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults including investigations and reports. She is also a clinical, as well as external assessor for University of Luton and University of Northampton in adult social care and mental health. 

Sam Cooper-Evans
As a Chartered Consultant Clinical Psychologist she is practised in comprehensive psychosocial treatment formulations pertaining to offending in the context of compounding mental health needs such as learning disability, acquired brain injury, dementia, and substance misuse, disorders on the Autistic Spectrum and personality disorder, which she is able to assess using a range of psychological assessment tools including neuropsychological tests. 

Dr Rafey Faruqui
As a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist for Kemsley, National Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation, here at St Andrew’s Healthcare Dr Faruqui works with both men and women, who have acquired brain injuries.

 

 

Dr Nuwan Galappathie
Based at our regional hospital in Birmingham, Dr Nuwan Galappathie is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Master of Laws in Mental Health Law. He is the Research Lead for the Birmingham Hospital and has a wide range of medico-legal publications. His clinical work includes the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of mentally disordered offenders. His areas of Medico-legal Expertise include: Fitness to Plead and Stand Trial, Psychiatric assessment, Risk assessment, Diminished Responsibility, Sex offenders, Parole Board assessments, Post Traumatic Stress disorder, Mental Health Review Tribunals, Civil Law and Family Law.

Dr Anu Iyer
With dual qualifications in Child Psychiatry and Learning Disabilities, Dr Iyer is a Consultant Psychiatrist currently works with young persons with neurodevelopmental disorders.  Her areas of interest include Autistic spectrum disorders, epilepsy and neuropsychatric manifestations of organic brain disorders.

Dr Keith Jenkins
Dr Jenkins’ expertise lies within the neuropsychological aspects of acquired brain injury and its effects upon individuals and their families.  As a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist within Kemsley, National Brain Injury Centre, St Andrew’s Healthcare, he works with both men and women living in long term services as a result of behavioural and cognitive change subsequent to their acquired brain injury.  He has prepared reports for the Court for over 15 years alongside his full time clinical practice and is a Full Practitioner Member of the British Psychological Society Division of Neuropsychology.  In addition, Keith is a Board Member of Headway East Northants, a member of the Northamptonshire Acquired Brain Injury Forum and Treasurer for the United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum.  He has researched malingered cognitive impairment, the effect of brain injury upon families, and social integration for people after brain injury.

Dr Rajesh Moholkar
Dr Moholkar works from our Birmingham Division as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist.  He has experience of working with men and with mental disorders.

Dr Samudra Sarkar
Dr Sarkar has a particular interest in women’s mental health and is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist currently based within the Learning disability unit of the Women’s Service.  He is also a member of two peer groups pertaining to Forensic Psychiatry and Forensic Learning Disability.

 

 Dr Marilyn Sher
As a Chartered Forensic Psychologist her areas of expertise lie in particular with adolescent offenders (all offence histories), both with and without developmental difficulties and mental health problems.  She is also able to undertake work regarding adults who have a range of offence histories too.

Dr Shubinder Shergill
Dr Shergill works within Men’s Service as a Consultant Psychiatrist and has a particular interest in Adults with learning disabilities, Aspergers and Autism.

 

 

Dr Martine Stoffels
Dr Martine Stoffels is a General Adult and Old Age Psychiatrist with additional training in Rehabilitation Psychiatry and Cognitive Analytical Therapy.  She currently integrates these skills in her work with older female offenders.  In addition she has an interest in memory difficulties and provides Psychiatric and Mental Capacity Assessments for individuals with memory difficulties.
