  • Secretary of State Visits St Andrew's
*Rt Hon Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families visited the Adolescent Service on Thursday 18 October with local MP Sally Keeble.
The visiting party were keen to meet service users and find out what they thought of the help they received at
St Andrew’s and where they saw their future. They took special interest in the quality of the environment and the programme developed for therapy and education.
The visitors were interested in St Andrew’s vision for the future, and were told by Richard Walker, Head of Learning, that it is to significantly increase learning opportunities for young people by developing externally accredited vocational courses on site.
On leaving, a rather profound statement was made by the politicians, "Everywhere should be as good as this".

  • St Andrew's and Cygnet Healthcare Joint Venture
St Andrew’s Healthcare and Cygnet Health Care Limited have come to an amicable agreement to dissolve their Acute Psychiatry Joint Venture, which has operated at Harrow since 1991, and at Isham House in Northampton since 2000. Dr Philip Sugarman, Medical Director and Chief Executive at St Andrew’s explains "In earlier years, there were real service benefits in bringing together St Andrew’s facilities and Cygnet’s experience in the acute psychiatry sector. However both organisations have since grown substantially, and it is now time for us to move on".

From 1 September 2007 St Andrew’s will take back Isham House at Northampton, which provides an increasingly specialist range of mental health and challenging behaviour services, including a specialist eating disorders unit, and a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), as well as inpatient, day and outpatient care in mental health and substance misuse. The wider development of St Andrew’s care pathways for men and women at Northampton, including brand new facilities, provides exciting opportunities for service innovations at Isham House in the future. St Andrew’s has agreed to lease Bowden House at Harrow to Cygnet for up to five years, giving Cygnet time to relocate the service, and St Andrew’s the opportunity to develop a new facility at Bowden House in the longer term. Cygnet will acquire full ownership of the small Westlands unit nearby.
