Clare House is a purpose built facility for patients with enduring mental illness whom require conditions of security. Its state of the art design incorporates flexible house group accommodation affording a range of rehabilitation options for patient groups with differing needs. It also boasts excellent in-house therapeutic facilities with a wide range of activities.

Patient Profile
Clare House is for adults aged 18-65 years:
 With enduring mental illness, in need of secure care and rehabilitation
 Detained for treatment under the Mental Health Act (1983)
 The majority of patients will present with schizophrenia, bi-polar affective and functional disorders. A significant proportion will exhibit a secondary complication of personality disorder, substance misuse and non-compliance with treatment.
The service accepts referrals from throughout Great Britain, but is located in Essex to predominately serve the surrounding counties including North, South and East London.

 To provide treatment and care of the highest quality, with a focus on individual treatment emphasising therapeutic gain and independent functioning
 To adopt an multi-disciplinary approach to treatment with therapeutic interventions being based on patients strength's taking into account deficits
 To respect the rights, dignity, privacy and religious beliefs of the individual and to promote user involvement in the day to day activities of the unit.
Treatment Philosophy
Key features of the programme include:
 A comprehensive assessment completed within 12 weeks of admission
 Treatment and care programmes offering a wide range of therapeutic modalities, combining psychiatric and cognitive behavioural perspectives with occupational therapy, creative therapies, hobbies, leisure and recreational activity, integrated through regular meetings between the patient and the multi-disciplinary team
 Comprehensive individual treatment programmes, working within CPA, which facilitate work on a wide range of problems
 An environment specially designed for longer term secure care and conducive to positive mental health
 A multi-disciplinary team approach with the emphasis on care, treatment and rehabilitation, working towards the client living in the community or in non-secure supported accommodation
 24 hour medical cover
 High nurse to patient ratio.

 Accommodation arranged in small domestic sized house groups, designed to reflect community accommodation, offering greater privacy and quality of life, as well as providing the flexibility to group patients with similar needs.
 Treatment programmes for men and women, with private facilities and separate house groups providing women only accommodation.
 36 residential beds and 17 high dependency beds in total
 3 bed intensive care suite
 Excellent facilities including occupational therapy, education, hobby rooms, fitness room, spa pool, multi-faith chapel and café/shop
 Secure garden facilities and gardening projects
 Facilities for art, music and drama therapy
 Additional sessional input including GP services, chiropody, reflexology, dietetics and hairdressing
 Excellent sports hall and gymnasium supervised by gym instructor.
