| |  |  |  |  | Patient Profile |  | |  | |  |  |  |  | Admission to the Service Admission is subject to a clinical assessment and takes place under a suitable section of the Mental Health or other appropriate Act. Referrals are welcomed for adult detained patient’s aged between 18 and 65 who require continuing care in conditions of security. Assessment is arranged upon receipt of a clinical referral letter and can usually be arranged within 5 working days of receipt.
Patient profile A typical Clare House patient will have experienced one or more previous placements either in an NHS or independent sector facility. They will present as requiring longer term care in a secure environment, typically with difficult to manage or challenging behaviours.
They will be individuals (male or female) who require a long term rehabilitation programme and will be subject to the provisions of the 1983 Mental Health Act.
Admission Criteria Patients will fulfil the criteria of serious mental illness and will have an enduring mental health problem or face severe difficulties in their daily living in a non-secure environment.
The following criteria will apply:
 All patients will be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983
 Patients will be between 18 and 65
 Patients will have spent at least 6 months in another healthcare setting
Exclusions:
 Patients with a primary diagnosis of personality disorder requiring specialist personality disorder treatment programmes
 Patients with a primary diagnosis of moderate or severe learning disability
 Patients requiring conditions of either medium or maximum security
 Patients with a primary diagnosis of drug or alcohol dependence
The majority of patients who will meet the admission criteria are likely to suffer chronic mental illness including schizophrenia, bi-polar and organic disorders. A significant proportion will exhibit a secondary complication of personality disorder, substance misuse and non-compliance with treatment.
