At Kemsley, National Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation, we experience at first hand the difficulties associated with finding appropriate longer term placements for clients in need of ongoing support following their period of rehabilitation. The following new service aimed at meeting this need, opened its doors in November this year.
Community Based Service at 32a Berkeley Close, Northampton Based in new purpose built accommodation within a desirable residential estate in central Northampton, 32a Berkeley Close is a 24 bed service that will seek to maintain rehabilitation gains already made and enhance the quality of life for adults with acquired brain injury within a specialist brain injury environment. A dedicated multi disciplinary staff team will deliver clients individual care plans where access to, and use of, community facilities will be a major focus of the work carried out. Medical and additional therapy requirements will be met by brain injury specialist staff from the main Kemsley Unit where this is an identified need. We expect that clients will continue to make rehabilitation gains and for some, a move on to less structured settings will become possible.
The client group for this service may currently be inappropriately placed in a rehabilitation, care home or domestic setting, having little opportunity to safely access the community. The service is able to accommodate those liable to be detained under the Mental Health Act although it is not a secure facility.
