| |  |  |  |  | Rejoining The Community |  | |  | |  |  |  |  | Kemsley helps adults who have an acquired brain injury prepare to rejoin the wider community. This entails recognising and treating the individual physical, medical, emotional, behavioural and cognitive needs of each patient.
The service caters for both men and women. This modern ward in which this treatment is provided has 5 individual flats with kitchens and bathrooms, and 11 single bedrooms with showers. The ward also has dining and lounge areas, laundry facilities, an indoor games area and a training kitchen. There are also rooms for individual and group work; the ward has its own garden and patio.
There is a planned programme of treatment in a safe environment which develops skills required for living in the general community.
Services include:
 short-term patient assessments
 intensive rehabilitation
 assessing and advising on future placements
 advice on long-stay facilities
 full discharge planning
 respite care
Treatment Aims
 development and maintainance of skills to enable patients to have a more independent lifestyle in the future
 assist patients to gain control over more extreme and disruptive behaviours
Treatment programmes will include:
 close monitoring and the promotion of interpersonal skills
 individual and shared responsibility, working with, and alongside others
 increasing individual choice in line with a patient's abilities
 enhancing the ability to live independently by developing organisation and time-management skills
 personal development and awareness through individual feedback
