| |  | | | | Harper Huntington's Disease Unit | | | | | | | | | The Harper Huntington’s Disease Unit provides specialist assessment, treatment and care for adults with Huntington’s Disease (aged 18+) who have accompanying physical needs and challenging behaviour which puts themselves or others at risk. Emphasis is placed on enhancing the quality of life of the individual. Respite and day care packages are also available on request.
Individual holistic needs assessment and care planning within the CPA framework
Detailed and continuing assessment of risk to self and others
Provision of a safe low secure environment
Treatment and management of challenging behaviour and psychosis
Monitoring and maintenance of optimal physical health
Maintenance of functional abilities including the acquisition of new skills and interests within the constraints of the condition
Promotion of interpersonal skills and communication
Promotion of ethnic, cultural, social and spiritual identity
Active involvement with and support for family and carers
Maximise potential for education and positive use of leisure activities
Special expertise in prevention of choking and provision of dysphagic diets
