life at St Andrew's : Education

Education

We want our service users to experience the benefits, enjoyment and spirit that lifelong learning and education brings. Knowledge helps self esteem, confidence, character building and sometimes, rehabilitation. Therefore we know that education for our adults, older people and adolescents plays an important part in the journey of life.

We have a specialist learning centre, which is leading the way in providing therapeutic education and care for people with complex health needs. This can be on an individual or group basis, and can result in examinations and formal qualifications which are externally accredited, if desired. We also offer designated support for those who use English as a second language.

In particular, our adolescent services had a comprehensive educational programme, offering a wide variety of vocational and core subjects.  Several of our service users have successfully taken and passed GCSE examinations, giving them skills and qualifications that they may build upon in the future.

Our residents have gained entry-level GCSE's, IT qualifications, adult literacy/numeracy and sports leader awards, all whilst studying with St Andrew's Healthcare.

Work experience
We have a partnership with an organisation called Workbridge, who provide the chance for work-based learning both outside and inside the clinical area. There is a great opportunity to develop and learn new skills and gain qualifications.
