Our Treatment Philosophy for Mental Health

The charity provides needs-led, CPA-supported specialised care for both men, womenand adolescents with mental health needs. We provide a continuum of treatment and care by embracing the principles of the recovery model.

Upon admission, our initial treatment focuses on the management of disturbed behaviour and risk to self and others, moving through to the development of appropriate coping skills and self-management.
Depending on the specific condition and security needs required, tailored treatment programmes are always provided. They offer a wide range of therapeutic modalities and interventions combining psychiatric, educational, recreational and cognitive behavioural perspectives. Such interventions can include: pharmacological, psychological, physical, sociological, occupational and educational, and may include offence-specific work individually or in groups.

All treatment and care is overseen by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team.

Service users are transferred within the service as their clinical status changes, in accordance with our policies. Discharge from one service follows the CPA process with the involvement of local clinicians from the service user’s home area.

A comprehensive team provides assessment and support, which includes an experienced social work team to ensure communication is maintained between current care and a service user’s home area, family and community mental health team.

All of our services have signed up to the principles of person-centred planning, set out in the White Paper, Valuing People.
