St Andrew’s acquired brain injury centre awarded for exceptional service by the Encephalitis Society
Congratulations to the staff at Berkeley Close and Kemsley, both units of St Andrew’s National Brain Injury Centre, whose hard work and dedication has been recognised by The Encephalitis Society.
Aiming to improve the quality of life for people affected directly or indirectly by encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), the Society offers support and provides information to those who need it. The charity also encourages research and works to raise awareness of the condition.
In line with this, at its October Annual Meeting, the Society presented six awards in recognition of exceptional service. St Andrew’s was proud to receive two of these, which were presented by Barbara Wilson OBE and accepted by Consultant Neuropsychologist, Keith Jenkins.

Both nominations were made by Jaqueline Day, sister of a Berkeley Close service user who explained, “The team provides the expertise, structure and encouragement that each patient needs to go forward to rehabilitate. Their contribution is making a world of difference improving the wellbeing of patients.”
These achievements are key in highlighting the services provided by St Andrew’s National Centre for Brain Injury and come at a great time with the charity’s Berkeley Close unit celebrating its fifth anniversary on November 17th and Kemsley marking 30 years in 2009. A number of events are planned throughout the year to mark this occasion with a 2 day conference, ‘Thirty Years of Neurobehavioural Rehabilitation – past, present and future’, scheduled for 8th-9th July 2009. Further details will be published shortly.
