Step down facility extends male care pathway for Essex service users
Returning to the community can be both an exciting and daunting time for service users accustomed to a secure care environment. To support this transition, St Andrew’s has recently developed a 4 bed Step-Down facility.
Based at the charity’s Essex site, the house sits independently allowing service users to practice their daily living skills and live semi-independently while remaining in familiar surroundings.
Similar services at St Andrew’s, Northampton have proven successful with patients feeling fully supported in the final stages of their treatment and clinicians confident of the individual’s skills prior to complete community discharge.
Residents will stay between 6 to 12 months after which they will follow a community placement or return to full independent living.
“This new facility offers a much-needed care pathway extension for our male service users”, said Sue Green, Registered Manager. “Here people can live independently with the knowledge that additional support and expertise is on hand if necessary.”
