Services for adolescents : Treatment Philosophy

Our Treatment Philosophy for Adolescents

Our treatment pathways utilise the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and provide a range of integrated therapeutic techniques. Due to the sensitivities surrounding the care of adolescents and the impact it has on future development, our psychiatrists and multi-disciplinary team closely supervise each unit.

Initially, care is focused on the management of mental illness, which then develops into coping abilities and works towards personal goals, resulting in self-management and autonomy. In addition to individual goals, shared objectives are created, using solution-focused principles to guide staff/resident interactions and increase sociability.

As our service users’ self-esteem rises, increased responsibility outside the secure unit is granted and ‘positive risk taking’ is encouraged. The environment at Northampton makes this the perfect place to encourage this stage of care.

A range of therapeutic interventions are available as part of an individualised care plan to respond to the increasingly complex needs that the young people present with.
