Admissions for ASD

The nature of an individual's needs are likely to be complex and will include the need for a comprehensive appraisal to determine a risk management plan. Our guidelines for admission are:

 

  • Male
  • Diagnosis of ASD; either established, or suspected and confirmed by our multi-disciplinary team
  • Age 18-65 years
  • Requirement for specialised ASD service in-patient treatment

Naturally, all admissions will be under the provisions of existing mental health legislation, and in line with those contained within the Mental Health Act. Clinical as well as Criminal Justice Service referrals from the pathway of access to the ASD services at St Andrew's.

A multi-disciplinary team is provided with several pre-admission templates, from which their initial assessment is made. These include:

 

  • St Andrew’s Healthcare service admission document
  • Multi-disciplinary care plan
  • Risk assessment
  • HoNOS
  • Social and personal history
  • Medication/medical history
  • Physical health
  • Forensic history

Upon admission, a 16-week multi-disciplinary assessment will form the core component of planning the care pathway. This identifies service user needs and establishes specific individual assessment criteria, which includes interventions and anticipated outcomes. Core assessments involve:

 

  •   Psychiatry
  •   Nursing
  •   Psychology
  •   Occupational Therapy
  •   Social Work
  •   Education
  •   Speech and Language Therapy
  •   Basic health check list
