Caroline Knight

BSc (Hons), Clin.Psy.D., C. Psychol., CSci., AFBPsS

Caroline joined the St Andrew’s team in 1999 and is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist within our services for acquired brain injury and adults with progressive neurological conditions including Huntington’s disease. She is the Strategic Lead for services for people with progressive neurological conditions.

With a wealth of experience, Caroline provides valuable input into the National Brain Injury Centre and has a special interest in severe challenging behaviour and cognitive impairment. Actively involved in research for over a decade, Caroline has specifically helped to develop psychometric assessment tools including co-authoring the Overt Aggression Scale-Modified for Neurorehabilitation (OAS-MNR). This led onto the development of the St Andrew’s Sexual Behaviour Scale (SASBA) in 2008. Her work has led to the production of several measures which are used in neurorehabilitation nationally and internationally. Caroline frequently presents her research at conferences across the country.

Caroline is a visiting lecturer and provides active teaching to the Institute of Psychiatry MSc in Specialist Secure Care. She also holds an honorary lecturer role at Leicester University and teaches and supervises on the Clinical Psychology training programmes at Leicester and Birmingham Universities. She is a Senior Tutor for the Association of Psychological therapies and regularly trains individuals on challenging behaviour, risk, neurological conditions and motivation interviewing both within St Andrew’s and for a range of NHS providers.

Amongst her key achievements, Caroline was a finalist in the Independent Healthcare Awards for Outcome in 2006 and runner up for Outstanding Research prize at the 2010 National Dementia Awards. She has won the St Andrew’s research prize in all categories on several occasions. Most recently, Caroline led in the achievement of the RAID Centre for Excellence Award for the Older Adult and Huntington ’s disease Services at St Andrew’s in 2010.
