Training Courses

The National Brain Injury Centre at St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton has over 30 years of experience in brain injury rehabilitation. By working in conjunction with the University of Northampton School of Health we are able to offer you an opportunity to study on one of our brain injury modular courses:

Brain Injury Awareness (Level 5)
Brain Injury Management (Level 6)

Aims
The aim of the course is to provide people working with brain injured adults the opportunity to increase their understanding of a number of key issues in relation to the rehabilitation, treatment and management of brain injured individuals.
The module aims to explore the nature and consequences of non-progressive acquired brain injury for the individual concerned, their family, significant others and society at large.
A range of treatments and rehabilitation issues will be critically examined to provide course members with a sound knowledge base from which they can develop within their area of practice.
The module will have an inter-disciplinary focus at all times in order to reflect the complex nature of brain injury and to explore the need for inter-disciplinary professional approaches to care, treatment and rehabilitation.

Candidates
The course is designed for any person, registered or non-registered, working within the field of brain injury, whether they are working within hospitals, community based units, for voluntary services or in paid employment.

To access either of these modules, you need to be working within a brain injury setting and meet the academic minimum entry requirements, as the course is designed to enable the student to apply theory learned during the module to their own work environment with their current client group.

Managing Children and Young People with a Brain Injury (Level 6)

Aims
The aim of this training course is to increase understanding of the impact that a brain injury has on the child or young person; emotionally, developmentally, physically and behaviourally.

The module allows students the chance to evaluate the roles that education, peer support and family involvement have to play in the rehabilitation process. It explores how these, and the young person’s own contribution, can affect the outcome of the rehabilitation.

Students will have opportunities to critically examine issues arising from the rehabilitation of young people with a brain injury, including their treatment, care and management.

Students will explore the relationship and critical factors between youth offending and children and a brain injury.

Candidates
This module is designed for any person, registered or non-registered, working with children and young people who have a brain injury, whether they are working within schools, further education, rehabilitation units, hospitals etc., for voluntary services or in paid employment.

To access this module you are required to be working with a child or person who has a brain injury for the duration of the course and meet the academic minimum entry requirements. The course is designed to enable the student to apply theory learned during the module to their own work environment within their current client group.
