Kavita Praveen

MRCPsych with CCT in CAMHS

Dr Praveen joined the St Andrew’s team in 2009 as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Kavita is the lead consultant for adolescent female patients and has been instrumental in the implementation of systems and processes for the management of Emerging Personality Disorders and family therapy within the service.

Kavita undertakes assessment and treatment of a range of developmental disorders; risk to self and others in a secure service and management of conditions with the combined use of psychopharmacology and a range of psychological models within a multi-disciplinary team. She believes in open communication and liaises with commissioners and clinicians throughout the admission process ensuring the smooth transition of patients.

Kavita’s interest lies in the research of trauma disorders and adolescent forensics, she is keen otraining clinical staff to develop skills and knowledge in working with young people with traumatic experiences.

With a wealth of expertise in the field, Kavita is a member of the General Medical Council (GMC), the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Quality Network for In-patient CAMHS (QNIC) where she is a Lead Reviewer. Kavita is also a speaker in the Masters Child Abuse Course at Northampton University and has carried out numerous workshops at external events.
