Consultant Psychiatrist - Women's Low Secure

Competitive Salary and Benefits Package

St Andrew’s Healthcare is a charity with an excellent and well-deserved reputation as a provider of specialist mental healthcare. We transform the lives of people with the greatest mental health needs and have a reputation for managing highly challenging patients. Throughout our 180 year history we have helped some of society’s most vulnerable people and today we proudly continue to build world-class mental healthcare services. Our Women’s Service achieved a CQC ‘Good’ rating in October 2018 and we continue to strive towards designing and delivering services of an outstanding quality. Our commitment to holistic care, safety, recovery and innovative therapies and treatment makes St Andrew’s the perfect place to take your career to a new level.

The Women’s Low Secure & Locked Integrated Practice Unit (IPU) offers a gender specific treatment programme for women who require specialist support for mental distress and/ or unhelpful patterns of behaviour. The IPU consists of 42 inpatient beds across two low-secure wards and one locked ward. The current role will be based on Elgar Ward, our 12-bedded low-secure service for women over the age of 45. The women we support experience complex mental and physical health needs often including a high level of challenging behaviour. There is a full multidisciplinary team on each ward, including a Senior Speciality Doctor and input from a dedicated physical healthcare team which contribute to an individualised treatment package for each patient.

The post holder will be supported to lead a full MDT and help shape services through strategic decision-making and improvement projects. Working in the IPU offers an excellent opportunity to deliver value-based healthcare focusing on clinical outcomes that will support the recovery and progress of patients to less restrictive environments in line with improvements in mental health and reductions in risk. The post holder will become part of an experienced and supportive group of psychiatrists across the Charity with regular opportunities to access CPD events and to undertake research projects as part of St Andrew's commitment to innovation and world-class care.

Applicants must have Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice; MRCPsych or equivalent and inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT for Forensic Psychiatry; Adult Psychiatry or Old Age Psychiatry.

The post attracts a competitive salary with travel allowance and also the opportunity to develop a medico legal and out-patient service via the St Andrew’s Consultancy service where this work is remunerated separately.

In addition, our benefits package includes pension, sickness policy on par with NHS, 41 days annual leave (pro rata), life cover, car lease scheme, free parking, cycle to work scheme, child care vouchers, relocation allowance subject to status and much more.

We would encourage anyone who is interested in this role, or working with the charity in other roles or services, to contact either Dr Michelle Huggins, Clinical Lead for the IPU on 01604 616523 or; or our internal  Recriutment Consultant, Paula Cullinan on 01604 616545 or
