The Role & Person
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic HCPC registered Dietitian with excellent communication skills and self-motivation to join St. Andrew’s Healthcare, a leading, not for profit, provider of in-patient psychiatric care. This post will offer the opportunity for a newly qualified dietitian or dietitian with 1-2 years post graduate experience to gain a working knowledge of dietetics in Mental Health. The post will be based at our Northampton site, which provides care to men and women within medium and low secure and locked units.
Meeting nutritional needs in this context can be challenging but extremely rewarding with the opportunity to make a significant difference to patient care. Support will be available from your line manager and colleagues in the dietetic team. We are committed to on-going professional development and have monthly professional meetings which you will be supported to attend.
This post would be suitable for either a newly qualified dietitian looking for a band 5 job or an existing band 5 dietitian who feels ready to progress to band 6. This role will build on your existing dietetic skills - clinical knowledge, communication skills, motivational interviewing, case load management and collaborative working.
Working as part of the friendly dietetic team your dietetic caseload would be varied and could include management of nutrition support, Diabetes (type 1 and type 2), weight management, dysphagia diets, food allergies and intolerance and management of over and under hydration. Previous experience of working with a variety of nutritional needs would be desirable for this post but not essential as ongoing support will be offered by the dietetic team.
Support will be provided by the band 7 dietitians within the department and the department benefits from dietetic assistant input. St Andrews has a strong ethos of multidisciplinary working and has close links with Speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and the ward teams. The dietetics team also works closely with the on-site catering team who provide a fresh cook catering service, which is tailored to patient’s needs.
