You can achieve more at St Andrew’s Healthcare

St Andrew’s Healthcare is a charity with an excellent and well-deserved reputation as a provider of specialist mental healthcare. We transform the lives of people with the greatest mental health needs and have a reputation for managing highly challenging patients. Throughout our 180 year history we have helped some of society’s most vulnerable people and today we proudly continue to build world-class mental healthcare services. Our commitment to holistic care, safety, recovery and innovative therapies and treatment makes St Andrew’s the perfect place to take your career to a new level.

The service

As part of our organisational and service commitment to delivering person centred, holistic and trauma informed care for women, and in collaboration with NHS England and service users, we are co-producing the design of our new Blended Secure (medium/low) service due to commence in the Summer. The unit is one of three NHSE pilot sites and is also aligned with the East Midlands New Care Model programme.

Many women experts by experience have clearly indicated that their recoveries could have been quicker and more robust if we were able to safely to streamline the difficult transition from medium to low secure, as well as intensify their bespoke therapy programmes and implement a well-planned discharge pathway. The Blended service will be true to this ethos at every level from our physical environment through the relational and procedural security, clinical therapies and governance structures.

The Blended unit is part of the Women’s Medium secure IPU and offers an excellent opportunity to be part of an innovative new service model working with a team delivering value based healthcare focussed on clinically relevant outcomes that support the accelerated recovery and progress of women to less restrictive environments and community step down in line with improvements in their mental health and reductions in risk.

The role

We have a number of opportunities for Mental Health Rehabilitation Support Workers who will be dedicated to the Blended service and are key additions to the ward team. Your focus will be on supporting our patients outside of the ward to ensure improved therapeutic delivery, particularly off the ward and in the evenings and at weekends.

You will assist our patients with day-to-day activities including guiding them in organising their personal affairs, reviewing bank account details and accompanying them on off-ward activities to empower them to build and maintain their skills in preparation for their future return to the community.

Working with people, feeling passionate about supporting and enabling them to live a more independent and fulfilling life is a rewarding and worthwhile job.  You will be expected to develop the role and further your career with access to an Adult Care Apprenticeship that will be tailored to the needs of our patients.

About you

You will have in depth experience of working with challenging patients in a mental health service, ideally with women in secure settings. You will be a strong team player accustomed to building and maintaining effective relationships across clinical teams. You will have good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport with patients. You will also be highly resilient, able to work under pressure and have good problem solving skills. You will have achieved the Care Certificate or a directly equivalent qualification.

If this sounds like you then we’d love you to apply here.

Closing date: Monday 27th May 2019.
