Salary: £17,750

(37.5 hours) Monday - Friday

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Band 3 Technical Instructor to work within our Deaf Service (Fairbairn Ward) Men's Medium Secure IPU on the Northampton site in William Wake House.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and reliable individual to work within our Occupational Therapy team helping to deliver a robust assessment and treatment service to our IPU. As Technical Instructor you will have the opportunity to work within a highly motivated OT team. You will be expected to deliver a wide range of interventions under the instruction  and support of a Registered Occupational Therapists. Your duties will include supporting the existing therapy programme, and contributing new ideas for both individual and group interventions to support patient recovery and well being..  As a creative and adaptable individual you will demonstrate your ability to maintain excellent communication skills and show adaptability in responding to the needs of a diverse patient group.  The successful post holder will bring specific skills to the team, adding to the existing range of interventions within the areas of personal management, leisure and  vocation.

The successful candidate will have or will be prepared to develop their skills in British Sign Language, an understanding of Deaf culture and a drive explore the best ways to support the recovery of this unique patient group.  An understanding or drive to develop a sound knowledge of a variety of Mental and Physical health issues and an ability to establish  and use  therapeutic rapport.
There will be opportunities to be involved in staff training and professional development as well as regular individual supervision from a Registered Occupational Therapist.

As a Technical Instructor you will develop a sound understanding of Occupational Therapy,  its models of practice. You will use your excellent communications skills to the advancement of the team to develop best interventions for the patients in our care. You will be able to demonstrate resilience and be an integral team player.  You will need to be able to work under pressure while still building and maintaining rapport with the patients.  You will also have the confidence to deliver planed interventions and the flexibility to potentially deliver these out of standard hours.
