An opportunity has arisen for a post in the Learning Disability IPU in Northampton. We would like to recruit a principal forensic or clinical psychologist who is interested in working with this complex and challenging population and has skill, and preferably experience, of working with adults with learning disabilities and forensic services.   You will join a team of experienced clinical and forensic psychologists, psychological therapists, and assistant psychologists.

The Secure Learning Disability IPU provides specialist care for men and women with mild learning disabilities and co morbid mental health, neurodevelopmental and offending / challenging behaviour needs.

 

Psychology is highly valued within the service and is embedded within a multi-disciplinary approach.  You will be fully involved in the development, delivery and evaluation of a range of therapeutic assessments, functional analyses and formulation-led psychological interventions.  The therapeutic orientation of the service is a combination of CBT, DBT and ‘third wave’ therapies. Psychology staff play a key role in service delivery and in the delivery of direct psychology activities.

 

The service has an established DBT service and has assessment and treatment pathways for violence reduction, arson, sexual offending and substance use needs, as well as treatments for mental health and developmental disorder needs.  There will be on-going opportunities to engage in service evaluation and research activities and the psychology team in the LD pathway regularly present positive clinical outcomes at national and international conferences.

 

You will be an HCPC registered Forensic or Clinical Psychologist looking for an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the existing practice of clinical or forensic psychology, in addition to managing an established Psychology team and contributing to organisational development.

The Role:

We are looking for a Principal Forensic or Clinical Psychologist to join our well established team which includes forensic and clinical psychologists supported by assistants and psychological therapists.

 

You will have responsibility for managing a team of psychologists and will undertake complex assessment and interventions influenced by a range of theoretical approaches. There will also be the expectation that the post holder will provide psychological consultation to the team and be involved in delivering reflective practice and staff support.

With our recent move to patient centred Integrated Practice Units we have more Clinical Leads coming from the psychology profession than any other profession in the organisation showing how important and influential it is to the charity.  We now need new people to join who will be the Clinical Leads of the future.
