You can achieve more at St Andrew’s Healthcare
St Andrew’s Healthcare is a charity with an excellent and well-deserved reputation as a provider of specialist mental healthcare. We transform the lives of people with the greatest mental health needs and have a reputation for managing highly distressed patients. Throughout our 180 year history we have helped some of society’s most vulnerable people and today we proudly continue to build world-class mental healthcare services. Our commitment to holistic care, safety, recovery and innovative therapies and treatment makes St Andrew’s the perfect place to take your career to a new level.
As part of our organisational and service commitment to delivering person centred, holistic and trauma informed care for women, and in collaboration with NHS England and service users, we are co-producing the design of our new Blended Secure (medium/low) service due to commence in the Summer. The unit is one of three NHSE pilot sites and is also aligned with the East Midlands New cars Models programme.
Many women experts by experience have clearly indicated that their recoveries could have been quicker and more robust if they were able to breech the difficult transition from medium to low secure. They also highlighted a need for bespoke therapy programmes and the implementation of a well-planned discharge pathway. The Blended service will be true to this ethos at every level, from our physical environment through to the relational and procedural security, clinical therapies and governance structures.
The Blended unit is part of the Women’s Medium secure IPU. It offers an excellent opportunity to be part of an innovative new service model working with a team delivering value based healthcare. The main focus of this project are clinically relevant outcomes that support our patients in their recovery and progression to less restrictive settings. Ultimately, the goal is community step down in line with improvements in mental health and reduction in risk.
We have a position for a Technical Instructor who will be dedicated to the Blended service. Working alongside an experienced registered Senior Occupational Therapist (OT), this role will give you exposure to proven assessments and interventions.
You will plan and undertake, as directed by the Senior OT, a selection of individual and group interventions using therapeutic activity and meaningful occupations. With a focus on future community re-integration, interventions will include; leisure and vocational pursuits such as arts and crafts, horticulture and sports activities. You will also play a role in supporting patients to gain skills in a range of personal and domestic daily living activities, such as cooking and self-care tasks.
You will have a clear understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy within Mental Health and have the ability to lead therapeutic activity groups under supervision. You will be a team player with good communication skills that will ensure you build rapport with our patients and other members of the team. You will also be able to work under pressure, have good organisational skills and a creative mind-set.
If this sounds like you then we’d love you to apply here. If you would like an informal and confidential discussion about the role please contact Will Staniford on 01604 616641 or firstname.lastname@example.org
