Career Level C / Expert (NHS Band 7/ 8a)

12 month fixed term contract

Location: Northampton

Hours: Full time although part time / flexible will be considered

Suitable for an experienced registered psychologist or someone completing their HCPC registration by July 2022

The Person

 We would like to recruit a Clinical Psychologist who has:

  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist (or nearing the achievement of this by Spring 2022)
  • Experience and/ or a keenness to working with men and women who experience a mental health crisis and require short term formulation-led support while engaging in their recovery on our psychiatric intensive care units (PICU)
  • Experience and/ or an interest in working with men in a low secure setting who require longer-term support that facilitates therapeutic change along their individual recovery journeys
  • A desire to develop skills in line management and the supervision of junior colleagues, specifically assistant psychologists working within the team
  • Knowledge of and an aspiration to provide staff support via reflective practice; teaching and training others
  • A drive to apply your skills and expertise by providing clinical and risk assessments for our patients, collaboratively develop formulations, plan and sequence psychological interventions and consult with the wider clinical team to enable patients to progress to the least restrictive environments
  • An ambition to maintain your skills in service evaluation; audit and research by regularly attending our Research Club and working towards making contributions to the evidence-base depending on your individual interests.

The Service 

As a result of changes within our services a post has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist to work within the low secure and PICU teams. The successful applicant will be joining a well-established psychology department which offers professional support and a wide range of expertise. Psychology is highly valued within the service and is embedded within a multi-disciplinary approach.  We are seeking keen team players who adopt a person-centred approach to care, and a recovery focus towards rehabilitation practices aiming to optimise each individual’s progress through treatment.

You will be able to access excellent opportunities for continuing professional development including engagement with our academic centre and research teams; attendance at our weekly CPD events that are delivered by a range of internal and external experts in their field; and will join a large network of experienced clinicians working across our inpatient and community services.

The post attracts a competitive salary with the option of additional remuneration for work undertaken via the St Andrew’s Community Partnership division. Working within the community partnership team can help provide opportunities to develop skills and confidence working more independently, which would be beneficial for work in private practice if that was a future career development objective.
