You will join a medically led organisation which has 8 Psychiatry Directors as part of our Executive Leadership team. This along with 30 other Consultant Psychiatrists based in Northampton will give you the support you need to succeed and enjoy your role whilst also having the opportunities to progress for the future too.
For newly qualified Consultants we provide mentoring where you will receive the support of an experience Consultant colleague to help you through the transition to Consultant Psychiatrist.
The Northampton site also has other services such as Low Secure, PICU, Learning Disability Medium Secure, Neuropsychiatry, Forensics, and CAMHS as well as our academic and research centre so great opportunities to broaden and develop your skills in the future too. It also has facilities such as a café, garden centre, charity shop, woodwork & ceramics workshop all staffed by patients and service users along with other facilities such as gym’s and swimming pools for patients and staff to use and all based in over 150 acres of beautiful woodland grounds (please see link below for more details).
Northamptonshire is also a great place to live due to having great schools, very reasonable house prices and a good mix of facilities within the town as well as really nice villages and countryside too. Based in the midlands you have great access to the M1 and M6 and will be based under an hour’s drive / train from London and Birmingham too.

We are recruiting for our well established Adult Autism Psychiatric Service to meet the clinical needs of adults with autism. The heart of our service is our multidisciplinary team of dedicated specialist clinicians that integrates knowledge and skills for autism, psychiatry and forensics to provide outstanding care and treatment for our patients. Our research interests mirror this and we actively encourage our team members to pursue research interests at the intersection of autism and forensic psychiatry to improve our clinical outcomes. Your research interests may build upon on our current national and international collaborations.
The Autistic Spectrum Disorder service in Northampton have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to develop and strengthen their experience working with patients in secure care settings and the chance to develop research and clinical ideas. This service is forward-thinking, open to new ideas and a holistic approach is taken to patient care and treatment.
If you would like to be part of working with an innovative and dynamic team; be able to develop and deliver up to date treatments; and work in a supportive environment then this is the place for you! The post-holder will be able to undertake non-clinical activities of interest e.g. research, teaching, governance and management - in an innovative way, and influence the direction of services in order for them to attain the best outcomes for our patients.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients with often complex needs. You will be able to promote innovation and improvement of services, with scope to develop your specialist interests and grow your remit and responsibilities. You will have an office and the support of an associate specialist as ward doctor and a full MDT including Clinical Administrators and Personal Assistants dedicated to your wards and service.
