You will join a medically led organisation which has 8 Psychiatry Directors as part of our Executive Leadership team.  This along with 30 other Consultant Psychiatrists based in Northampton will give you the support you need to succeed and enjoy your role whilst also having the opportunities to progress for the future too.

For newly qualified Consultants we provide mentoring where you will receive the support of an experience Consultant colleague to help you through the transition to Consultant Psychiatrist.

The Northampton site also has other services such as Low Secure, PICU, Learning Disability, Autism, Medium Secure, Forensics, and CAMHS as well as our academic and research centre with opportunities to broaden and develop your skills in the future.  It also has facilities such as a café, garden centre, charity shop, woodwork & ceramics workshop all staffed by patients and service users along with other facilities such as gym’s and swimming pools for patients and staff to use and all based in over 150 acres of beautiful woodland grounds (please see link below for more details).

The Service

Our Neuropsychiatry Division offers specialist services for patients with Dementia and Acquired Brain Injury. The care and rehabilitation offered is recognised for being at the forefront of innovative service developments, for its excellence in service delivery and for its ability to manage and reduce the risks associated with these conditions.

The Neuropsychiatry Division also offers an excellent opportunity to deliver value-based healthcare focusing on clinical outcomes. The service uses a variety of outcomes, both patient facing and quality improvement focused, to complement clinical decisions and guide strategic direction.  

Our Brain Injury unit offers specialist services for patients with Acquired Brain Injury. The care and rehabilitation offered is recognised for being at the forefront of innovative service developments, for its excellence in service delivery and for its ability to manage and reduce the risks associated with Acquired Brain Injury.

The Role

The Neuropsychiatry service in Northampton have an opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to develop and strengthen their experience within Brain Injury, rehabilitation and Care whilst having the chance to develop research and clinical ideas. This service is forward-thinking, open to new ideas and a holistic approach is taken to patient care and treatment.  

If you would like to be part of working with an innovative and dynamic team; be able to develop and deliver up to date treatments; and work in a supportive environment then this is the place for you!  This will be a personally and professionally rewarding role.  The post-holder will be able to undertake non-clinical activities of interest e.g. research, teaching, governance and management - in an innovative way, and influence the direction of services in order for them to attain the best outcomes for our patients.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients with often complex needs.  You will be able to promote innovation and improvement of services, with scope to develop your specialist interests and grow your remit and responsibilities. You will have an office and the support of an associate specialist as ward doctor and a full MDT including Clinical Administrators and Personal Assistants dedicated to your wards and service.

The Person

The successful candidate will lead a full MDT and help shape services further through strategic decision-making and improvement projects whilst having support from a team of Junior Doctors and MDT specialists.  You will also be able to undertake research projects as part of St Andrew's commitment to innovation and world-class care.

Applicants must have MRCPsych or equivalent and hold a CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
