About the service
The St. Andrew’s Healthcare Medium Secure Division is looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor for our Women’s Blended Secure Service. The service has been one of three NHS England pilot site for blended secure care for women. This is a new approach to secure care for women which prioritises continuity of care, the role trauma plays in a patient’s presentation, peer support, and co-production.
Blended services manage patients of both low and medium security in the same service and flex relational and procedural security depending on individual patient need rather than blanket restrictions and expectations. By avoid transitions between levels of security and working with one clinical team throughout, length of hospital stay is reduced.
The service comprises three 10 bedded wards, one admission ward and two treatment wards. There are two multidisciplinary teams who each manage 5 beds in the admission ward and a treatment ward. Patients remain under the MDT they are admitted by until their discharge to the community.
The service is well regarded and high performing. A recent review by IMPACT - the East Midlands provider collaborative for secure care described Maple Ward as “like a well-oiled machine”.
