Inpatient services in Northampton: Transfer to NHFT takes effect

Patients with complex mental health needs will continue to receive care in Northampton, following the transfer of secure specialist services from St Andrew’s Healthcare to Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT), which took effect today.

Trevor Torrington, Chief Executive Officer of St Andrew’s Healthcare, said:

“The transfer provides certainty for many patients who will continue to be cared for by specialist clinical teams led by NHFT. I am also pleased that, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the teams at St Andrew’s and at NHFT, specialist care roles have been maintained in Northampton.”

Under the agreement, developed with the support of NHS England, NHFT has taken over responsibility for inpatient services in Northampton from St Andrew’s, ensuring continuity of specialist care for patients. To enable this, staff have moved from St Andrew’s to NHFT. In addition, the charity has leased several buildings to NHFT in a long-term arrangement and is providing some non-clinical infrastructure services to support NHFT for a limited time.

As well as providing non-clinical support to NHFT in Northampton, the charity will continue to provide specialist mental healthcare services across the UK, maintaining its drive to continually enhance quality of care, as it delivers on its mission to support people with complex mental health needs to transform their lives.

These services include: Inpatient services at its hospitals in Birmingham and Essex, Adult care services in Northampton and Nottinghamshire, Outpatient services and specialist research.

These services will be supported by teams based at St Andrew’s head office in Northampton, alongside colleagues working across the UK close to patients and service users.
