About St Andrew’s Healthcare

St Andrew’s is a charity that specialises in complex mental health.

With hospitals in Northampton, Birmingham and Essex, we’ve been caring for some of the most vulnerable people for nearly 200 years - giving them hope for a better future.

While society has come a long way in recognising mental health, those with the most complex needs are still too often overlooked. That’s where St Andrew’s steps in.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity to use your communication skills to make a meaningful difference every day - shaping how internal communications are delivered across the charity during a time of significant organisational and cultural change.

As Internal Communications Lead, you’ll help colleagues navigate this change, ensuring they feel informed, supported, and connected. This is a role with real purpose, and one where you’ll see the impact of your work every day with both colleagues and patients.

Reporting to the Director of Communications & External Affairs, you’ll join a small, dedicated team working at the heart of decision-making at St Andrew’s.

The Person

This role is suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable working through significant change, uncertainty, and challenge.

You’ll bring substantial internal communications experience - gained in-house in the commercial, charity, or public sector. You’ll have a strong track record of supporting organisational change, with business partnering experience.

You’re a self-starter who takes personal responsibility for your work and delivery. You use initiative to solve problems and overcome challenges, with meticulous attention to detail. You’re also a team player - collaborative, and someone who acts with integrity (there’s no place for egos in the St Andrew’s Communications Team).

Skills and Experience

  • Communications: Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to tailor engaging messages for different audiences, including senior leaders, front-line colleagues, and patients.
  • Strategic Planning: Proven ability to develop and implement communications strategies across diverse and complex stakeholder groups.
  • Business Partnering: Experience of business partnering with project teams to support the delivery of key programmes of work.
  • Project Management: Skilled in planning and delivering communications campaigns, particularly those focused on organisational and cultural change.
  • Creative Flair: Able to develop and execute creative ideas and solutions to engage audiences.
  • Channel Management: Experienced in creating engaging content and managing internal channels such as town halls, internal magazines, intranet, and social platforms.
  • Digital: Confident using communication tools and platforms, with a good understanding of emerging technologies including AI.
