Supporting patients to move forward through specialist rehabilitation
For patients who have progressed beyond acute or secure care, the next stage of recovery requires more than simply a change of setting. It requires the right environment, where patients can continue their recovery journey in a structured and purposeful way, developing independence as they build the skills, confidence and resilience needed for life beyond the hospital.
On Tiptree ward, our approach is focused on helping patients make meaningful progress towards their future goals.
Following its latest inspection, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated Tiptree ward ‘Good’ across all five domains – Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led, providing independent assurance of the quality of care delivered by our specialist multidisciplinary team.
Safe: supporting recovery while managing risk
Inspectors found that patients were supported in a safe environment, with effective systems for assessing and managing risk.
Care planning was personalised, with clear consideration of each patient's needs, risks and recovery goals. Discharge planning began from admission, helping ensure patients were supported towards safe transitions when they were ready.
Patients told inspectors they felt safe on the ward and staff had the skills, training and support needed to provide high-quality care.
Inspectors recognised the importance of the multidisciplinary approach on Tiptree ward, with care delivered by experienced professionals including nursing, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy and wider specialist teams.
Patients benefited from personalised care, including psychological therapies, occupational therapy and opportunities to develop everyday living skills.

Patients had access to a range of meaningful activities and opportunities designed to support independence, including education, vocational opportunities, physical wellbeing activities and community-based experiences.
Through structured rehabilitation, patients can gradually build confidence in real-world environments while continuing to receive the support they need.
The inspection recognised strong leadership, effective governance and a positive culture across Tiptree ward.
Inspectors found leaders were visible and approachable, staff felt supported and the service was committed to learning and continuous improvement.
This reflects the wider commitment of the Tiptree team to providing safe, compassionate and effective rehabilitation for every patient.
The CQC findings provide independent recognition of the approach that underpins Tiptree ward: helping patients who may no longer require acute or secure care, but who still need specialist support before moving successfully into the community.
Through personalised rehabilitation pathways, psychological support, occupational therapy, meaningful activity and close working with patients, families, commissioners and community teams, Tiptree helps people develop the skills and confidence needed for their next stage of recovery.
As Dr Sam Dove, Clinical Director and Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, explains:
"Recovery is built through consistent relationships, evidence-based rehabilitation and helping people develop the confidence and skills to move forward. We are proud the CQC recognised the dedication of our multidisciplinary team and the quality of care they provide every day."
