Reach Out project

We’re excited to announce that the Reach Out project – which we work on in partnership with two NHS providers - has was 'Highly Commended' in last night's HSJ Awards. The awards are one of the largest celebrations of healthcare excellence in the world, recognising and promoting the finest achievements in the NHS, and showcasing them to the service’s most influential leaders.

Reach Out (Reaching every service user from the West Midlands and creating hope, opportunities, understanding and trust) is a partnership between St Andrew’s Healthcare, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust.

We are working together to conduct a two year pilot within Adult Secure Care, implementing a new care model. The programme is bringing patients who are currently in secure care outside of the West Midlands closer to home, family and friends. There are around 550 adults across the West Midlands who are detained in medium or low secure care and, 35% of these are out of area.

Dr Ankur Agarwal, Clinical Lead for Reach Out from St Andrew’s, noted: “The Reach Out Pilot demonstrates St Andrew’s commitment to working in collaboration with our NHS partners to improve outcomes for our patients. By working in partnership we are able to share best practice and integrate patient care pathways enabling better care, closer to home and facilitating discharge in a more timely manner.”’

The shortlisted organisations have taken part in a series of presentations and interviews to judging panels of senior and influential figures from the sector, and the worthy winners were announced at a ceremony on 21 November. For all the winners, visit the HSJ website.
