Our quality improvement action plan

Safe Today, is a comprehensive quality improvement plan at St Andrew’s Healthcare, developed in partnership with NHS experts. This is a charity-wide action plan designed to significantly strengthen the quality, safety and consistency of patient care across our Northampton services.

Safe Today reflects a renewed and refocused commitment to putting patients at the centre of everything we do, ensuring that each person in our care receives a consistently safe and high quality level of support, every day during their time with us.

This is not a short-term initiative, but a structured and sustainable programme of change that will deliver both immediate improvements and long-term impact for the people we support.

Four core pillars

Our plan is built around four core pillars

1. Quality and safety

  • We are strengthening how care is delivered at ward level, from clearer co-produced care planning and improved ward round consistency. This will help to enhance safeguarding processes, provide safer restraint monitoring, strengthened suicide prevention, improve medicines management, and support a sharper focus on least restrictive practice.
  • We are also enhancing how we listen to and act on patient and carer feedback, embedding consistent processes to ensure concerns are addressed promptly and learning is shared openly.

2. Governance and risk

  • We are refining how information flows from ward to Board, ensuring clear accountability, robust oversight and improved risk management.
  • This includes the introduction of strengthened reporting structures and a digital corporate risk management process to support timely identification and escalation of risks.

3. Leadership

  • Through our co-developed Leadership Commitment, we are embedding clear expectations for leaders at every level, focusing on being curious, setting standards and enabling growth. This ensures accountability, visibility and a relentless focus on quality improvement.

4. Culture and workforce

  • Safe Today reinforces our CARE values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence, and strengthens our commitment to an open, transparent culture where colleagues feel confident to speak up and continuously improve practice.
  • We recognise that quality is built on trust, partnership and transparency and your insight and feedback are incredibly important to us.
