Substance Misuse Nurse RMN / RGN / Specialist Drug Worker

Location: Birmingham

12 Months Fixed Term Contract

Our Charity

St Andrew’s is a mental health Charity and our purpose is to inspire hope for those living with complex mental health needs. We are looking to a future that ensures everyone with complex mental health needs is heard, valued and has hope for their future.

The Role

This is an exciting new opportunity for Birmingham, offering the chance to shape and grow an emerging service that will make a real difference to the lives of our patients. We are looking for a passionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RMN /RGN) with post‑registration experience in alcohol and substance misuse treatment, and a strong understanding of the pharmacological treatments that support recovery.

In this role, you will be an integral part of our positive, committed clinical team across the Birmingham division—delivering high‑quality assessments, consultations and short‑term interventions (both group and 1:1) for individuals experiencing substance misuse challenges, including those with co‑occurring mental health difficulties or long‑term physical health conditions.

You will work collaboratively with patients, families, carers and a wide range of professionals, including the ward‑based MDT, ensuring every person receives compassionate, coordinated and effective care.

Your expertise in risk assessment will enable you to develop thoughtful, person‑centred treatment and risk management plans that support safe care, promote recovery and contribute to well‑planned, hopeful discharge pathways.

As part of our forward‑thinking service, you will play an active role in championing quality improvements, shaping innovative approaches to care and contributing to service development within St Andrew’s and the wider Reach Out collaborative. This is a role where your ideas, enthusiasm and expertise can truly influence the future of how we support people towards better outcomes.

Reward

We offer an excellent benefits package including: Pension; Sickness policy on par with the NHS; Access to the Blue Light Card and Health Service Discounts schemes; 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), increasing to 33 days after 10 years' service; Life cover; Electric Car lease scheme; Cycle to work scheme; Healthcare cash plan; Free parking; Paid DBS application; Access to free vocational qualifications.
