Post Conference Update

On Tuesday 10th June 2025, the CDCT in collaboration with the Crisis, Disaster and Trauma section of the BPS, hosted its 2nd International Meeting Trauma Needs in Secure Care conference. The event hosted 8 speakers and a panel discussion with experts drawn from England, Scotland, Canada and the USA. Over three symposia #TNSC2025 brought together leading clinical practitioners and academic practitioners who focused on the trauma needs of people detained in secure services.

128 professionals registered for the event from a range of NHS and independent health providers.

It was a great day with thought provoking and insightful presentations from:

  • Dr Abdullah Mia: Opening address - Meeting the trauma needs of populations in secure care services.
  • Dr Jon Taylor: Sexuality Trauma - pathways to sexual attraction to children.
  • Gillian Sutcliffe: Trauma pathways for women in prison.
  • Dr Geraldine Akerman: Taking care of staff in forensic settings.
  • Lawrence Jones: State shifting - trauma and implications for responsibility and treatment.
  • Dr Deborah Morris: Ethical issues in working with trauma needs in secure care.
  • David S. Prescott: Trauma, Risk and Good Lives - ethics and rehabilitation.
  • Dr Frank Ferdik: Trauma in correctional settings - origins, consequence, and solutions.
  • Dr Julie Goldenson: Making the case for trauma-informed supervision of forensic trainees.

Conference Feedback

The feedback from our delegates was also truly inspiring with 100% surveyed reporting that they had learnt something new and 98% would change their clinical practice as a result of attending the conference! 100% would attend a future CDCT event.
