Congratulations to all the wonderful staff on Walton ward who have been named the winners of a top healthcare award.

St Andrew's Healthcare is thrilled to announce that the team on Walton ward were named winners of the Excellence in Specialist Care at the LaingBuisson awards. The awards programme is highly prestigious and honours organisations that “establish new benchmarks of excellence in their respective industries”.

Walton ward is a 14-bed secure unit for adults living with Huntington's disease. The highly skilled, multidisciplinary team supports cognitive, physical, and behavioural needs.

Therapies are highly structured, person-centred, and adaptive - using models like RAID®, dementia care mapping, and aggression scales. Additionally, they offer crisis stabilisation via our Neuro Rapid Response service for acute behavioural and cognitive deterioration.

Dr Sanjith Kamath, St Andrew's Executive Medical Director, said: "I'm so pleased the judges were able to see how the ward delivers personalised, co-produced care to our patients. Walton ward care is about more than treatment; it’s about preserving dignity, promoting stability, and helping people thrive. I would like to congratulate each and every member of the team for being recognised."

Now in its 20th year of recognising outstanding achievements, the awards are assessed independently and objectively, focusing on both the individuals delivering care and their advisors.

Additionally, the charity was shortlisted in a number of other categories, which saw the News 2 dashboard be nominated for Health Tech Product of the Year and the CAMHS College also made the final in the Excellence in Children category.

Elsewhere Walton was also nominated for Nursing Team of the Year and the Deaf Forensic Service was also shortlisted in the Excellence in Specialist Care category.

Adam Foster, St Andrew's Business Development Director, said: “St Andrew's has been recognised for some great examples of high quality and innovative care. LaingBuisson is one of the most prestigious awards in the sector, so to have a number of finalists across different categories really recognises, that despite our broader quality challenges, there are some really outstanding practices.”
