Why I became a mental health or learning disabilities nurse...

"I realised a passion for the field of nursing, for supporting people and enhancing quality of life."

Our workforce is made of people from a wide range of backgrounds who are all dedicated to transforming lives together.

Clinical Nurse Lead Natasha Long is one of those people.

She joined St Andrew's Healthcare in 2009 after a recommendation by a family member, and has worked her way up...

Why did you want to become a mental health or learning disabilities nurse?

I realised a passion for the field of nursing, for supporting people and enhancing quality of life.

What career progression have you experienced and what do you see in the future?

I have been a Healthcare Assistant (HCA), a staff nurse, a senior staff nurse, clinical nurse lead, acting nurse manager, and I work with our Learning and Development team to help facilitate training.

I have options and a loose plan for the future!

Have you got any favourite moments in your experience of being a nurse and working in healthcare?

Too many, and too confidential, to mention! More recently, the opportunities I have found for myself to supplement my nursing role are a definite highlight.

What's the best thing about working as a nurse at St Andrew's, and why should people consider it?

There are many opportunities for progression and self-development, and St Andrew's provides a positive atmosphere, lots of support and training, and a competitive salary.

What other advice would you give to potential employees?

You get out what you put in.

Any demonstration of interest, passion, ability will be recognised and provide so many opportunities for you.
